This text explores a set of key concepts in Marxist theory as developed and read by Lacan, demonstrating links and connections between Marxist thought and Lacanian practice. The book examines the complexity of these encounters through the structure of a comprehensive vocabulary which covers diverse areas, from capitalism and communism to history, ideology, politics, work, and family. Offering new perspectives on these concepts in psychoanalysis, as well as in the fields of political and critical theory, the book brings together contributions (...) from a range of international experts to demonstrate the dynamic relationship between Marx and Lacan, as well as illuminating 'untranslatable points' which may offer productive tension between the two. La universidad, particularmente en Latinoamérica, refleja grandes vacíos en su contexto social. A pesar de los avances académicos e investigativos se suele dejar de lado la riqueza cultural y lingüística de comunidades que hacen parte de la misma realidad social. Un caso puntual es el de la comunidad sorda, cuyo acceso a la educación superior es muy reducido; incluso, quienes ingresan a la universidad pueden enfrentarse a condiciones hostiles y alejadas de una educación humanista. En general, son muy incipientes los (...) procesos que se tienen con la inclusión de esta población en la educación superior. Por eso, en este trabajo se plantean algunas estrategias que pueden adaptarse en las instituciones universitarias, con el fin de lograr las transformaciones pertinentes para una educación popular que incluya a estas minorías. This article examines the role of social media and journalistic media in presidential electoral processes. A systematic review of scientific articles published from 2012 to 2022 was conducted. The results indicate that the media has a significant influence on public perception and the political agenda during election campaigns. Furthermore, the importance of evaluating political leaders in the voters' decision-making process is emphasized. In summary, the article provides valuable insights into how the media can shape the narrative and public opinion during (...) presidential elections. (shrink)

In this research, a sliding mode regulator with sine mapping is suggested for the stabilization of electricity generators being affected by magnet interaction nonlinearities and generator nonlinearities. To reach this goal, our suggested regulator has the following contributions: it starts from the sliding mode regulator with the modifications that the saturation mapping is used to reach a smoother performance instead of the signum mapping, and the sine mapping is applied to reach an upper bound in the proportional gain error, it (...) is used to reach some chosen constant behaviors for the angle position, angle speed, and current in the electricity generators, and its stabilization is ensured based on the Lyapunov approach. El libro engloba una serie de artículos acerca de la Filosofía del Proceso, tratando de responder a varias preguntas fundamentales: ¿sigue vigente la noción de sustancia para dar cuenta de la realidad? ¿Qué significa que la realidad es procesual, si es que acaso es así? Otro hilo conductor proviene del diálogo con Whitehead. Se incluyen enfoques que abarcan diferentes épocas históricas, desde la antiguedad, la época medieval, hasta las posturas más recientes.

El antropólogo social Carlos Reynoso ha planteado una serie de objeciones al llamado pensamiento complejo, cuyo principal representante es el pensador francés Edgar Morin. Reynoso toma como punto de referencia para realizar la crítica al pensamiento complejo el rigor conceptual de las ciencias de la complejidad. Sus acusaciones sobre el pensamiento complejo se fundamentan en el carácter discursivo de éste y en su falta de un método científico. Este artículo analiza y critica el concepto implícito de cientificidad en el (...) pensamiento de Reynoso y propone la necesidad de articular pensamiento filosófico y metodología empírica para comprender la complejidad y sus ciencias. Cuentos malévolos (1904), libro de Clemente Palma, revela un tópico constante, basado en lo terrorífico, propio del romanticismo. Asimismo, aquella preferencia del autor se le atribuye a su filiación con Édgar Allan Poe, quien construyó discursos caracterizados por la configuración apocalíptica de personajes, situaciones y ambientes que desecadenaban lo irracional y lo paranormal. Desde la publicación del compendio del escritor peruano, la exégesis literaria se ha manifestado a través de reseñas y prólogos. Sin embargo, en un segundo momento, se han (...) realizado artículos y libros que investigan el contenido desarrollado en esta obra. Este procedimiento de recepción de la hermenéutica es lo que prevalezco en este estudio, considerando que el propósito principal es identificar los lineamientos persistentes que plantea la crítica literaria, con la finalidad de instaurar vertientes temáticas que contribuyan a la comprensión del texto y la generación de investigaciones posteriores, distinguidas por su delimitación y su originalidad. La producción alemana Heimat (1984) del director Edgar Reitz consta de 11 largometrajes que abordan, principalmente, la Primera Guerra Mundial y la Segunda Guerra Mundial; además de las repercusiones psicológicas, sociales y económicas que generan en los pobladores estos eventos históricos. Este conjunto de filmes se enfoca en un espacio rural denominado Schabbach. En ese lugar, se aprecia el desarrollo y la evolución de una genealogía que se supedita a la relación de María y Paul Simon, pero desde una (...) perspectiva disociada. Prevalecerán situaciones individualistas como alejarse del núcleo familiar para ser partidario de la guerra, migrar a otras localidades, buscar superarse, evitar a los congéneres o vivir en el recuerdo. En ese sentido, esta investigación se basará en esas motivaciones de los personajes y se recurrirá al análisis interdisciplinario, epistemología propia de los Estudios Culturales, para confrontar y explicar esa realidad social frente a la guerra. Despite the emergence of computer games as a dominant cultural industry, we know little or nothing about the ethics of computer games. Considerations of the morality of computer games seldom go beyond intermittent portrayals of them in the mass media as training devices for teenage serial killers. In this first scholarly exploration of the subject, Miguel Sicart addresses broader issues about the ethics of games, the ethics of playing the games, and the ethical responsibilities of game designers. He argues (...) that computer games are ethical objects, that computer game players are ethical agents, and that the ethics of computer games should be seen as a complex network of responsibilities and moral duties. Players should not be considered passive amoral creatures; they reflect, relate, and create with ethical minds. The games they play are ethical systems, with rules that create gameworlds with values at play. Drawing on concepts from philosophy and game studies, Sicart proposes a framework for analyzing the ethics of computer games as both designed objects and player experiences. After presenting his core theoretical arguments and offering a general theory for understanding computer game ethics, Sicart offers case studies examining single-player games, multiplayer games, and online gameworlds from an ethical perspective. He explores issues raised by unethical content in computer games and its possible effect on players and offers a synthesis of design theory and ethics that could be used as both analytical tool and inspiration in the creation of ethical gameplay. In her paper, The case for physician assisted suicide: not proven, Bonnie Steinbock argues that the experience with Oregon’s Death with Dignity Act fails to demonstrate that the benefits of legalising physician assisted suicide outweigh its risks. Given that her verdict is based on a small number of highly controversial cases that will most likely occur under any regime of legally implemented safeguards, she renders it virtually impossible to prove the case for physician assisted suicide. In this brief paper, we (...) suggest some ways that may enable us to weigh the risks and benefits of legalisation more fairly and, hopefully, allow us to close the case for physician assisted suicide. Philip Melanchthon, humanist and colleague of Martin Luther, is best known for his educational reforms, for which he earned the title Praeceptor Germaniae. His most influential form of philosophical writing was the academic oration, and this volume, first published in 1999, presents a large and wide-ranging selection of his orations and textbook prefaces translated into English. The purpose of this paper is to explore the impact that developments in transhumanist technologies may have upon human cultures, and to do so by exploring a potential debate between Habermas and the transhumanists. Transhumanists, such as Nick Bostrom, typically see the potential in genetic and other technologies for positively expanding and transcending human nature. In contrast, Habermas is a representative of those who are fearful of this technology, suggesting that it will compound the deleterious effects of the colonisation of (...) the lifeworld, further constraining human autonomy and undermining the meaningfulness of the lifeworld by expanding the technological control and manipulation of humanity. It will be argued that these opposed positions are grounded in fundamentally different understandings of the consequences of scientific and technological advance. On one level, the transhumanists remain confident that the lifeworld has within it the resources necessary to find meaning and purpose in a society deeply infused by genetic technology. Habermas disagrees. On another level, the difference is articulated by Horkheimer and Adorno in Dialectic of Enlightenment, primarily by challenging what may be understood as a Baconian faith in science as a project for the domination of nature. While the transhumanists broadly embrace this faith, Habermas returns to something akin to Horkheimer and Adorno’s pessimistic scepticism. (shrink)

Global Prescriptions scrutinizes the movement to export a U.S.-oriented version of the " rule of law," found in the activities of philanthropic foundations, the World Bank, the U.S. Agency for International Development, and several other developmental organizations. Yves Dezalay and Bryant G. Garth have brought together a group of scholars from a variety of disciplines--anthropology, economics, history, law, political science, and sociology--to create tools for understanding this movement. Comprised of two sections, the volume first develops theoretical perspectives key to an (...) understanding of the production and impact of new "global legal prescriptions." This essay proposes a new reading of Cohen’s polemical text, Germanism and Judaism. It argues that the development of Cohen’s late philosophy reveals him not as a helpless philosopher overwhelmed by the maelstrom of a world war, but as an “engaged” thinker who carries forward what he takes to be philosophy’s duty to struggle against war by going to “war” in the space of theory and culture. Cohen’s text needs to be placed in the context of his other wartime writings (...) which, on the one hand, assigned a new and more radical function to messianic Judaism within his ethics, and simultaneously transplanted his neo-Kantianism into the more “realistic” political philosophies of Plato and of Spinoza, respectively. This essay argues that the thought of the later Cohen does not break with his previous commitments to cosmopolitanism and social democracy, as much as it tries to confront the harsh realities of European nationalist and anti-Semitic politics by articulating the roles of philosophy and of Judaism in modernity no longer through a strictly idealistic and cosmopolitan optic. Pourquoi nous est-il si difficile d'agir face aux graves problèmes qui menacent nos sociétés, notre santé, la vie même? Serait-ce par manque d'informations, voire de connaissances? Pour Miguel Benasayag, ce n'est pas de ce côté-là qu'il faut chercher, mais plutôt de celui des modalités de la connaissance elle-même. C'est pourquoi, dans cet ouvrage, i1 s'efforce de comprendre les différents mécanismes de construction de notre perception du monde, de la réalité. Et d'étudier, au-delà de toute morale, les dispositifs par lesquels (...) nous " mettons à distance " la réalité, en nous condamnant souvent à subir ses effets sans pouvoir agir. La vieille querelle entre déterminisme et libre-arbitre apparaît ainsi comme un faux débat. Le défi, c'est de penser la liberté réconciliée avec le destin. Jadis, l'agir dépendait de Dieu. Puis on l'a confié à l'homme, lieu de la séparation entre la connaissance, l'agir et le monde. C'est ainsi que l'agir et ses possibilités deviennent une question : depuis où agit-on? Quelle serait la bonne optique? Si Dieu nous condamne à une trop grosse focale, l'individu, lui, nous condamne à un zoom trop prononcé. Le paysage, qui n'est pas un simple décor où l'on déambule, pourrait être cette bonne distance pour renouer avec une connaissance qui redevient agir. Il s'agit donc de comprendre les liens des hommes entre eux, les liens qui les tissent comme éléments d'un paysage. L'auteur continue ici sa déconstruction du mythe de l'individu, ainsi que son travail sur l'éthique en tant que fragilité. L'objectif reste clair une philosophie de la situation et de l'action. El interés del debate es poner al descubierto los límites inmanentes de la civilización liberal como fuente de ideas para la filosofía moral. El derrumbe del socialismo pareció darle la razón al liberalismo, no obstante la crítica continuó, desde su propio terreno, por parte de los comunitaristas. Éstos le critican sus efectos de desintegración social y de encubrimiento ideológico para la cruda realidad que le toca vivir al individuo en la sociedad de mercado. Tres son los puntos criticados: el individualismo, (...) el formalismo moral, y la indiferencia ante el arraigo comunitario de la vida humana. Sin embargo el liberalismo tiene un punto fuerte: hace más viable la búsqueda de formas de relación humana transnacionales e interculturales, donde el reconocimiento recíproco resulta más equitativo, pues salva al estado democrático de derecho sin sacrificar el pluralismo cultural.
